Descrizione
«The 31st Symposium of the Collegium Internationale Allergologicum, entitled “Towards Precision Diagnosis and Targeted Intervention in Allergic Disease” was held in Charleston, South Carolina from 3–8 April 2016. The historic setting provided an enriching opportunity for basic immunologists, translational scientists, allergists and others actively involved in epidemiology, genetics, basic mechanistic research, and clinical application of therapeutic agents to engage in stimulating, open intellectual discussions focused on new advances, current gaps in our knowledge base, and provided opportunities to develop collaborative research efforts in the field.
The focus of the 31st Symposium – that of precision medicine – highlighted the importance of precise application of diagnostic tools including genomics, biomarkers, and the appreciation of innate and adaptive immunity in the allergic diathesis. This meeting’s Invited Lecturers, Professor K. Frank Austen and Dr. Laurie Glimcher provided keen insight into cellular diversity and an elucidation of the molecular pathways that regulate pathologic vs protective immunity. They provided a blueprint for precision medicine as the underpinning of the physician’s bench-to-bedside approach to evaluation and management of the patient. The 50th Anniversary of the discovery of IgE offered a unique opportunity for the Collegium’s membership to hear firsthand from Dr. Johansson and colleagues of Dr. Ishizaka, and their contributions added immensely to our Proceedings of the 2016 Symposium».
